The Image of Women in Primary School Curriculum and Textbooks (1923-2023)

The aim of this research is to examine the image of women in Turkish primary school curricula and textbooks in 100 years’ time, its change in the process, and the social, political, economic, and cultural reasons of the factors affecting this change.

Scope of the Project

In this research, five courses (Sciences, Life Studies, Mathematics, Social Studies and Turkish) taught in primary schools in 100 years’ time between 1923 and 2023 and the curricula of these textbooks will be examined in terms of the image of women and the change in this image, factors affecting this change and the consistency in the women's image in the materials mentioned and the position of women in the textbooks. With this aim, the curricula and textbooks of taught courses in the said periods will be analyzed comparatively with the utilization of Discourse Historical Approach, which is one of the approaches proposed by Critical Discourse Analysis. With the help of the results obtained,
suggestions will be given to the policy makers, practitioners, and researchers.
